Preseason injury sidelines Jerry Bergman

Published

Multiple sources tell Football Zebras that head linesman Jerry Bergman is recovering from a knee injury. Bergman (number 91) injured his knee in the first preseason game of the season and is recovering from a torn meniscus. He will miss the remaining preseason games and hopes to be ready to work Week 1 of the regular season.

Bergman is the brother of veteran NFL official Jeff Bergman (number 32), and the son of the retired NFL official Jerry Bergman Sr.

This season, Bergman has been assigned to Terry McAulay’s crew. After the 2015 season, Bergman worked the frigid Seahawks-Vikings Wild Card game and has worked a playoff game on the field in five of the last eight seasons.

The NFL has will use line judge Mike Spanier, a swing official not assigned to any crew, to fill in this week. If Bergman isn’t ready to start the regular season, either Spanier or a head linesman who has a bye week will substitute.

Best wishes to Jerry Bergman for a speedy recovery.
