Vikings defensive back Andrew Sendejo has been suspended for one game for a hit on Ravens receiver Mike Wallace after after having his appeal denied by appeals officer Derrick Brooks. Sendejo was penalized for a hit to the head/neck area of a defenseless player after hitting Wallace as he was being tackled.

In a letter to Sendejo informing him of his suspension, NFL VP of football operations Jon Runyan wrote, “The violation was flagrant and warrants a suspension because it could have been avoided, was violently directed at the head and neck area and unreasonably placed both you and an opposing player at risk of serious injury.”

Sendejo was previously fined for a hit on Buccaneers tight end Cameron Brate during Week 3. Following the NFL’s emphasis on penalizing illegal hits announced during the offseason, Sendejo becomes the third player to be suspended this year for an illegal hit.  Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict and Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan were suspended 3 and 1 games, respectively.

Sendejo will be benched for the Vikings next game, which is against the Browns in London this Sunday.
