Ed Hochuli receives the 2024 Art McNally Award
Hochuli is the 23rd award recipient
Ed Hochuli, former NFL back judge and referee has been presented with the 2024 Art McNally Award. He is the award’s 23rd recipient. The Art McNally Award is named after the former head of officiating from 1968 to 1990 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2022 inductee. The award recognizes an official for exemplary professionalism, leadership and commitment to sportsmanship on and off the field. The NFL began this award in 2002.
Hochuli was first announced as the award recipient during the officials’ preseason clinic.
Hochuli, an official in the NFL from 1990-2017 and father of current NFL referee Shawn Hochuli, wore the number 85 during his NFL career, which started after working as a college official in the Big Sky and Pac-10 conferences.
In his 28-year career, Hochuli worked an amazing 420 regular season games and 27 playoff games, just one game short of tying the all-time record of playoff game assignments. He worked 11 wild card games, 5 divisional playoff games, 9 conference championship games, and Super Bowls XXXII and XXXVIII.
Hochuli’s final game was the 2017 NFC Conference Championship game between the Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles.
