Field judge Terry Brown must make quick, decisive calls on the field.

The skill possibly saved his life two years ago.

In the fall of 2018, a sore on his tongue wouldn’t heal. Instead of dismissing it an an ulcer, Brown went to a doctor to get it checked out.

In February of 2019, a biopsy confirmed Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

In March of 2019, the Knoxville, Tennessee, resident had cancer surgery at the UT Medical Center. Doctors removed the cancer from his tongue and 29 lymph nodes that turned out to be negative for cancer.

“At this point, I’m cancer free and that gives me hope,” Brown told WBIR-TV.

Brown played college football at the University of Tennessee and he also played in the NFL.

He is a 15-year NFL veteran, working the field judge and side judge positions. He has worked seven playoff games on the field – four wild card games, two divisional playoff games, and the 2018 AFC Championship Game.

We wish Brown a successful 2020 NFL season and continued good health.
