In our first full episode of the 1st & 25 podcast, Ben Austro, Mark Schultz, Chris Seubert, and Patrick Weber get you ready for the 2024 season. We have a few thoughts about the new kickoff rule, where it is going in the future, and whether we will see it at the high school level some day.
We also discussed the “move with purpose” mechanics of the past few seasons, and why they aren’t being used in 2024.
Finally, we looked at an interesting experiment that returned in the final week of preseason. Crews were deliberately shorthanded in the second half of their games so they could practice situations when an official is injured in a regular season game. We discussed how different crews handle this when it comes up in the regular season.
