On the 1st & 25 podcast, we return from hiatus to discuss officiating assignments in the new playoff format in college football. Eight crews are now looking to advance to the semifinal bowls and the National Championship Game based on their postseason game performance.

In the Peach Bowl, there was a high profile targeting review that resulted in a controversial no-call. There are varied opinions on it, and we step through our analysis we applied on gameday as to why we think it’s not a foul, despite some high profile opinions stating otherwise.
At the end of the college conference championships, there were several instances of postgame incidents related to teams planting their flag in the home team’s logo, causing disturbances in more than one stadium and police involvement. What should college football do to address this?
And finally, during our hiatus, we witnessed a “rulebook unicorn” — the first successful fair-catch kick in almost 50 years. We take a look at the historic moment.
