Episode 15: ‘The referee can award a score if this continues’
We take a look at the possibility of a palpably unfair act in the NFL, the failed 4th & 1 in the AFC Championship Game, and the Super Bowl LIX crew.
On the Conference Championship edition of the 1st & 25 podcast, we look at another rarity in football: the palpably unfair act. A series of penalties by the Commanders at the goal line lead Shawn Hochuli to announce, “the referee can award a score if this behavior continues.” We examine the rule and how it would be applied if carried out.
We also take a look at the failed 4th & 1 by the Bills late in the AFC Championship game. Did two officials have differing spots? We break down the mechanics of this play and what was ruled on the field, how the ruling of short of the line to gain was reached, and why replay didn’t overturn it.
Finally, the Super Bowl crew has been announced, and there are a lot of surprises. We have opinions.
Listen in to Ben Austro, Mark Schultz, Cam Filipe, and Chris Seubert break it all down.
