Back judge Scott Green was promoted to referee prior to the 2005 season, and was the referee for Super Bowl XLIV following the 2009 season. He became the sixth official to work a Super Bowl at the referee position after working a different Super Bowl at his original position prior to being promoted, and is the only official in NFL history to work a Super Bowl at the referee position after working multiple Super Bowls at his original position prior to being promoted.
